Nvidia relaunching RTX 2060, but with more memory

As the gamer world is struggling against the shortage of graphic cards, Nvidia is ready to resurrect RTX 2060 in the coming few days. It will be coming with12 GB of GDDR6 memory, which is double the memory paired with the older 2019 version, which was only 6 GB.

After the weeks of rumors spreading, an Nvidia spokesperson said, “The RTX 2060 12GB helps alleviate supply constraints by giving us more flexibility to source memory.” Higher density video RAM is more readily available right now, which Nvidia uses, so they are pairing it with the RTX 2060.

You can see the new specs with old ones in the below image.

The newest graphics cards are still hard to come by at any retailers right now, and the situation is much worse due to the scalpers and the cryptocurrency miners snatching away any car they see in stock online.

If we look at the statements made by the spokesperson, we think that the new RTX 2060 will not come at a low price as he said the new RTX 2060 is a premium version of the old one with 6 GB of RAM, and the price will reflect that. RTX 2060 was launched originally at a price of $349 before it was discounted for $50 and was selling for $299 in the following year.

The RTX 3060 debuted at $329, and since then, due to the pandemic and shortage of supply, its price has been inflated up to $529 on some major retailers. Meanwhile, some scalpers on eBay are trying to sell the card for $900, which is absurd.

Nvidia is planning to launch the RTX 2060 on December 7 with the help of third-party vendors, but there will be no founders card available for the consumers to buy.

The biggest questions that remain are its availability and its performance. We can expect the performance of the new RTX 2060 to perform at the level of an RTX 3060 as it has the same 12 GB RAM. The difference between the cards is the architecture of the CUDA cores. RTX 3060 is equipped with 3584 CUDA cores built with Ampere architecture, and the RTX 2060 revision consists of 2176 CUDA cores that are using an older Turing architecture.

RTX 3060 should remain better options from both, of course, if you can find one at retail price. GPU supply chains have become an alluring target for scalpers and even third-party vendors to sell the cards at a higher price, given that the demand is constantly increasing due to the involvement of the cryptocurrency’s minors. We are not putting too much faith in the launch of the new RTX 2060 as we will not be surprised if it does little to the ongoing shortage of graphic cards.
